Frequently asked questions

What is Eureka and how does Eureka work?

Eureka is a digital research platform, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), designed to streamline mHealth research for participants and researchers. Based out of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), our founders have created an engaging way for participants to contribute to research from the comfort of their own home.

Who can I get in touch with if I have any questions?

If you have any questions, you can reach us at: coordinator@eurekaplatform.org

What happens to my data?

When you contribute data to the Eureka Research Platform, we will keep it secure and safe (see our Privacy Policy in the settings page). You will have access to the data stored on your profile page, but as of now, you won’t be able to request your survey or study activity data. For now, if you’d like to share your information (with your doctor, nurse, family member, etc.), you can show them on the app itself.

I’d like to change my password/email address/phone number. How do I do that?

Access your settings page, under basic info the password section will allow you to change your password.

I don’t like Eureka anymore. I want to stop using it. How do I opt out? Will I be automatically opted out of all of the studies I’m participating in on Eureka?

Simply deleting the Eureka application from your phone won’t effectively deactivate your account. Please make sure to follow the instructions below in order to successfully deactivate your Eureka application and participation:

  1. Email the Eureka team (coordinator@eurekaplatform.org) with an opt-out request and reason for withdrawing your participation.
  2. Once we process the request, we’ll deactivate your account on our side.
  3. Delete the application permanently from your phone.

If you would like to reactivate your account, please email the Eureka team and we will be able to reinstate your account. The next time you log in, be sure to use the same email address/phone number and password as your original Eureka account and everything will be just as you left it.

Which mobile OS does Eureka support?

Eureka currently supports iPhone (5, 6, and 7). Our Android version is coming soon!

Will there be more features and updates to the app?

We are always adding and updating features in Eureka as we develop the application and the experience. Be sure to check your Apple App Store or Google Play Store periodically for app updates.

I’m notified too often and I’m getting annoyed. What should I do?

Not to worry! You can head over to your Notification Preferences in your settings page to modify the types of notifications Eureka sends you.

Some notifications are dependent on the studies you are participating in. You may contact that study’s specific study coordinator for more questions, but some of these notifications can not be changed by our Eureka team. The goal is for these alerts to notify you of important study activities.

I’m in a few studies. I want to opt out of one, but not the others. What do I do?

Get in touch with the study you would like to be opted out of. They will create a request and ensure that you are opted out of their individual study while still remaining an active participant in the Eureka app overall.

Is Eureka in any other languages?

Eureka is currently in English. We are working on a few other languages in the near future.

How do I see consents for individual studies?

You’ll be able to see all of the consents from your studies in your settings page.

How do I get in touch with my study team?

If you have study specific questions, you can head to your settings page in the Eureka app. Here you’ll be able to send a direct message to specific studies you are participating in.

If you’d like to call a specific study team, you can find their phone number in the study’s informed consent.
